Bright Futures Beaufort County
Bright Futures Mission: Together . . . committing all that we are to enrich the life of a child. Christ Church is partnering together with Bright Futures and Vidant Beaufort Hospital to enrich the lives of the children at Eastern Elementary. Through serving as GG’s (teacher helpers) or as individual student mentors, we believe in the importance of relationships and sharing Christ’s love as we care for the students and faculty at Eastern Elementary.
Coastal Pregnancy Center
The Coastal Pregnancy Center: Saving families one baby at a time. The goal of this faith based, non-profit ministry is to provide factual information and an “abortion alternative” to women considering having an abortion. There are many services provided at the Center: pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, post-abortion recovery, counseling, birthing and childcare classes, and care for new and expectant mothers. The needs are great; volunteers and financial support are always appreciated. For more information or ways you can get involved, please visit www.coastalpregnancycenter.org.
Out There In the World of Kids
Young Life doesn’t start with a program. It starts with adults concerned enough about kids to go to them, on their turf and in their culture, building bridges of authentic friendship.
So Young Life leaders log hours with kids — where they are, as they are. Leaders attend football practices and play frisbee golf. We listen to their stories and learn what’s important to them because we genuinely care about their joys, triumphs, heartaches and setbacks.
We believe in the power of presence. Kids’ lives are dramatically impacted when caring adults come alongside them, sharing God’s love. Because their leader believes in them, they begin to see that their lives have great worth, meaning and purpose. For more information about how you can get involved, please visit their website.
Helping Without Hurting
We believe that human beings are in need of restoration in four fundamental relationships: with God, self, others, and the rest of creation. Therefore when someone comes to us for help (say with an overdue electric bill), we do not in that moment reduce their need to a financial one. They, along with us, need restoration in all four of our broken relationships. For this reason, at Christ Church we recognize the importance of entering into relationship with others, not just giving handouts. “If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday” (Isaiah 58:10). Our desire is to empower each person with the assets and skills they already possess to enable them to work out solutions to their own struggles. We see our role primarily as cheerleaders: doing all we can to spur them on, and to work closely with them along the way.
Helping Without Hurting in Church Benevolence is a fantastic resource aimed at helping Christians understand how best to help the people with whom we come into contact.
